Madison's Magical Journey with the Disney College Program
Howdy! My name is Madison and I am a Food and Beverage "intern" at Walt DisneyWorld Resort for the Fall semester of 2017. Recently I was asked to extend my program for one more semester so my full program will last until May 10th. Now the word intern is in quotation marks because I am technically not an intern. I am a CP or College Programmer, but for all intents and purposes, saying I am an intern allows people to understand my position better. Do not get the College Program and the Professional Internships/Management Internships confused though if you are looking to apply for this program. These are three different positions with different qualifications to be hired. Most people see on my name tag that I have my university and ask if I am an intern to which I respond "In a way. I am here doing the College Program which lets me work for Disney and get school credit for doing so. There are other types of internships, but my "internship" is mostly grunt work while the others are management and corporate type internships." Sometimes they ask me how I got to do it and I explained that I had to apply and go through 2 interview rounds and then wait to see if I was accepted. I tell them that this is an international program so I was competing with college students from all over the world, and one of my roommates is actually Australian and it has been really cool to work with people from everywhere. If they are really enjoying the conversation and ask about how competitive the program is I tell them that they told us there were roughly 60,000 applicants from all over the world, and 6,500 were chosen.
